In connection with the baptism
of Princess Ingrid Alexandra on Saturday, April 17, the Norwegian postal
service, Norway Post has issued a special postage stamp in honor of the
royal heiress.

The Swedish King Oscar I was
the first royal ever to be depicted on a Norwegian stamp in 1856, while
Princess Ingrid Alexandra is the youngest member of the Royal Family to
ever receive such an honor.
Christening Present "This is Norway Posts christening present to Princess Ingrid
Alexandra", says Norway Posts Press Officer, Birgitte Lund
Nakken.
The Princess stamp, with a face value of NOK 6 (86 cents), will be issued
in 1.8 million copies and will be on sale at all post offices in Norway.
The stamp is based on a photograph taken by Guri Dahl. The award winning
designer Enzo Finger has been responsible for the design.
Finger also produced the stamps and album commemorating the 100th anniversary
of the birth of King Olav V, and the stamp for the Nobel Peace Prizes
100th Anniversary in 2001, along with Sverre Morken, who was responsible
for engraving the stamp.
The stamp is decorated in gold and silver with the crown of the heir to
the throne. The motif shows waves of golden threads. According to Norway
Post, "the miniature sheet has a feminine touch."
Norway Post has mounted the miniature sheet and first-day letter in a
specially designed frame with personal greetings from Norway Posts
Chief Executive Officer Mr. Kaare Frydenberg. This will be presented as
a christening gift to Ingrid Alexandra.
Six Godparents The Norwegian palace recently released the list of godparents for
the christening of Princess Ingrid Alexandra on April 17.
Only one commoner appears in the royal array, the Princess
maternal grandmother, Marit Tjessem, mother of Crown Princess Mette-Marit.
Grandfather King Harald heads the list of six godparents, which includes
Spains Crown Prince Felipe, Prince of Asturias, the biggest surprise
of the announcement.
Princess Ingrid Alexandras aunt, Princess Märtha Louise, Denmarks
Crown Prince Frederik, and Swedens Crown Princess Victoria are the
others godparents named in the palace press release.
Bishop Gunnar Stålsett, who wed the royal couple in 2001, will preside
over the christening ceremony at the palace chapel.
